About the Project

This project investigates my cross-cultural identity through the visualisation of hybridised scripts. It serves a platform to express ongoing questions I had surrounding being two things at once — having my identity misunderstood, and having the language I speak mistaken for another.

Through the practice of trans-scripting, the injection of one language’s script into another, outcomes formed the creation of bi-directional hybridised scripts. These echo perceptions of my own cultural positioning through language, promoting script mis-recognition and re-recognition — appearing familiar, yet out-of-place.

Likewise, this project encourages the use of design as a mode of expression non-limited to art, and encourages explorations of identity through scripts rather than imagery. See more information about the research here.
